Siemens to Set Up 4G R&D Center in Korea
July 08, 2005
Siemens plans to set up a 4G mobile communications R&D center in Korea at the beginning of 2006. Siemens hopes to cooperate with Korean businesses to develop 4G wireless technologies such as WiBro and HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access). Specifically, the company will focus on MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) and OFDM (Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing), which are an important part of WiBro and HSDPA technologies. Siemens said the R&D center initially will employ 50 Korean and overseas experts on mobile networks, after which the workforce will gradually be expanded. The center in Korea will be Siemens' first 4G R&D facility outside of Germany.
